The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.2 (later adjusted to M 7.8) near Burias, Philippines, at 9:37 a.m. (ChST).
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami advisory for Guam and the CNMI. Based on available data, there is a potential threat involving sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents that could pose a hazard along beaches, in harbors, and in coastal waters.
The earliest estimated arrival for these hazardous conditions is 12:45 p.m. (ChST).
Guam Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense is advising island residents to stay out of the water and away from beaches and coastal areas. While a full-scale evacuation is not required at this time, please stay alert and listen for further information.
