Magnitude 4.9 earthquake recorded east-southeast of Guam

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake was recorded east-southeast of Guam on Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck at about 1:53 p.m. ChST, approximately 71 kilometers east-southeast of Yigo Village, at a depth of 38.2 kilometers, officials said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center advised there was no tsunami threat to the Marianas. Authorities reported no major damage or injuries resulting from the earthquake.

The Office of Guam Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense reminded residents to follow standard earthquake safety procedures, including “Drop, Cover and Hold On,” until shaking stops.

Officials encouraged the public to review earthquake preparedness information available through federal and local emergency management resources.
