Attorney Alicia A.G. Limtiaco has been appointed to two national leadership positions that strengthen Guam’s representation in major legal and human‐rights forums. Limtiaco will serve as an Additional Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Council for the American Bar Association beginning September 2025, becoming the first attorney from Guam to receive an ABA presidential appointment to the committee. She was also named an At-Large Board Member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, another first for the island.
The appointments place Guam within high-level discussions that influence global justice, human rights protections and institutional governance. They also mark a milestone for women of the Marianas, continuing a legacy of leaders who have expanded opportunities for future generations. “This is not just a personal achievement. It is a reflection of the resilience and strength of the women who have come before me,” Limtiaco said.
Both ABA and NAPABA play major roles in shaping legal policy and advancing diversity within the profession. The ABA represents more than 166,000 members worldwide and works closely with UN bodies on matters of international law. NAPABA advocates on behalf of more than 80,000 Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander legal professionals, focusing on representation, professional development and judicial diversity.
Limtiaco said her new roles reinforce her long-standing belief that leadership should expand access rather than limit it. “It is our collective responsibility to protect marginalized populations and foster a global community rooted in human rights,” she said. Her appointments position Guam and the Marianas at the center of national policy conversations, creating new pathways for emerging Pacific voices in the legal field.
