Congressman James Moylan announced Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Justice has opened an investigation into financial irregularities uncovered after his former chief of staff’s resignation.
In a video statement, Moylan said the House of Payroll and Benefits identified irregularities “directly linked to the former staffer’s responsibilities.” The discovery prompted him to work with House officials to refer the matter to the DOJ and request a full investigation. He declined to share further details, citing the ongoing probe.
Moylan did not name the former staffer. However, Bobby Shringi resigned as Moylan’s chief of staff in March. The congressman stressed his commitment to transparency while respecting “the principles of due process,” noting that “every individual deserves a fair and impartial investigation.”
He said the matter is now in the hands of the appropriate authorities but assured constituents that his office remains focused on representing Guam in Washington, D.C. “I have full confidence in the criminal justice system to carry out the work with integrity,” Moylan said.
