Hazardous surf and marine conditions continue across the Marianas, with multiple advisories remaining in effect through Monday, according to the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Guam.
A high surf advisory remains in place for Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan until 6 p.m. Monday, with large breaking waves of 9 to 11 feet expected along west- and north-facing reefs. Officials warned of dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, along with the potential for localized beach erosion. Inexperienced swimmers are urged to stay out of the water.
A high risk of rip currents also remains in effect through Monday afternoon for all four islands. Rip currents can pull swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The National Weather Service advises swimmers caught in a rip current to avoid swimming against it, move parallel to the shoreline, and signal for help.
In addition, a small craft advisory remains in effect for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan until 6 p.m. Monday. Northeast winds of 15 to 25 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots, and seas of 9 to 12 feet are expected. Conditions are considered hazardous for small vessels, particularly for inexperienced mariners and those operating smaller boats.
The Office of Guam Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense urged the public to monitor weather updates and follow safety guidance as conditions persist.
