Increased showers, gusty winds and hazardous marine conditions are expected across Guam and the Marianas as weather systems move through the region, according to the Office of Guam Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense.
The National Weather Service in Guam is monitoring a shear line over the CNMI and a weak tropical disturbance south of Guam in eastern Yap state. Forecast models show the disturbance moving west-northwest, passing between Yap and Guam but closer to Yap.
While no direct threats are expected, scattered to numerous showers, locally heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms are possible for Guam and Rota. Winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are forecast, with some showers capable of producing strong to near-gale-force gusts through tonight.
Residents are advised to clear drains in flood-prone areas, stay updated on weather conditions and use caution when driving in heavy rain due to low visibility and slippery roads.
Hazardous surf and seas also continue. Inexperienced swimmers are urged to stay out of the water.
The following advisories remain in effect:
• High Surf Advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan, with surf of 8 to 11 feet, through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
• High Risk of Rip Currents for Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan through late tonight.
• Small Craft Advisory for coastal waters, with winds of 15 to 25 knots and seas of 8 to 11 feet.
