Acting Governor Josh Tenorio announced that Guam has received more than $11 million in Fiscal Year 2025 discretionary funding from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs to boost critical projects across the island. The $11,015,766 in grants will fund upgrades in health care, emergency response, education, energy resilience, and technology modernization.
“This latest round of funding underscores the strong partnership between Guam and the Office of Insular Affairs,” Tenorio said. “From hospital upgrades and firefighter equipment to microgrid development and technology modernization, these investments help us deliver better, faster, and safer services for our people.”
Major awards include $4.3 million for the Guam Fire Department’s fuel-efficient fire pumper procurement and $1.6 million to the Guam Power Authority for microgrid controller projects at Inarajan Middle and Upi Elementary schools. Additional funding will modernize the Guam Department of Revenue and Taxation’s ID systems, expand Guam Memorial Hospital’s pediatric and workforce programs, and strengthen invasive species control through the Brown Treesnake and Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle initiatives.
Tenorio thanked the OIA and local agencies for their collaboration, noting that each project represents a tangible step toward improving public safety, energy sustainability, and environmental protection. “These investments strengthen our communities and safeguard our future,” he said. “We are proud that Guam continues to play an active role in advancing shared goals across the Pacific.”
