GTA provided tips on how to get your communications devices ready for Super Typhoon Bavi's passage in a series of informational flyers focused on staying connected, "no matter the weather."
To stay connected the telecommunication provider advised its customers to have a backup connection ready, namely mobile data, in case home internet goes down. They also encouraged prepaid customers to "top up" minutes on their mobile plan to ensure enough data. GTA also advised customers to have a communication plan in case SMS or messaging apps become unavailable.
GTA said customers should ensure that devices such as a modem and router are plugged into a surge protector to avoid power spikes. During outages unplug routers and appliances to prevent damage and place your router in a "safe, elevated area" to avoid water damage in case of flooding.
Prior to the storm mobile phones, laptops and tablets should be fully charged. Invest ing a backup power source like an Uninterrupted power supply (UPS). Before and after the storm GTA said restart your modem or router to stabilize connection.
Ahead of the storm GTA said its working to prepare the network an operations.
"Teams across the company are closely monitoring weather conditions and completing routine storm readiness measures, including fueling generators and service vehicles, testing backup power systems, inspecting and securing network facilities, securing Cell on Wheels (COWs), staging recovery equipment, and confirming staffing for essential personnel," GTA said in a release on July 2.
GTA's Network Operations Center will remain staffed through the storm to monitor network performance and weather conditions.
