The Guam Police Department suspended "active search" operations for Robert "Berta" A.T. Taimanglo on Aug. 7 but confirmed that the investigation into Taimanglo's disappearance remains open.
Taimanglo's family has been informed about the decision, which authorities characterized as "difficult" while also stressing it "was not made lightly."
In a statement Friday, police said the determination was made based on an evaluation of the search efforts carried out to date.
"Efforts to locate Berta have included but are not limited to: extensive searches of relevant areas, the resources deployed, reviews of flight records and guidance obtained from search specialists," GPD said Aug. 7.
Taimanglo's vehicle was found along the Pagat Hiking Trail in Mangilao around 7:30 a.m. June 26, and police confirmed that her belongings were also located.
Guam News Network files show GPD, and the Guam Fire Department conducted searches for Taimanglo in the area but were unsuccessful.
"Although active search operations have been suspended, the investigation remains open and the case is not closed. GPD will continue to review any new information or credible leads, and additional search efforts may be considered if new evidence or circumstances arise," GPD said.
