The Guam Police Department showcased more than $4.2 million in new patrol vehicles and equipment during a presentation on Nov. 17 at the Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor’s Complex in Adelup. Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio, Chief of Police Stephen Ignacio, Sen. Shawn Gumataotao and several village mayors attended the event, which concluded with a blessing of the fleet by Monsignor James Benavente.
Tenorio said the investment reflects the government’s commitment to supporting officers with safer and more capable tools. “We are here to celebrate that this is another good investment in making our police department even more effective than they already are,” he said.
The new fleet includes 47 Dodge Durango Police Pursuit vehicles funded through a mix of American Rescue Plan allocations, Student Resource Officer funds and Department of Public Works highway safety grants. GPD also added four Dodge Ram Pro Master vans, a Kia minivan, and two Ford Rangers purchased through local and federal grant programs.
Critical equipment upgrades include five drones, a speed detector with photo and video capability, a full PA system, command post supplies and 100 first-aid pouches. Ignacio said the technology improves officer safety and real-time situational awareness. “The vehicles and the other new equipment are a $4.2M investment in our community to keep our community safe,” he said.
