As Super Typhoon Sinlaku continues to batter Guam, the Guam Power Authority is urging residents to stay away from any downed power lines — and to never assume a line is safe.
GPA advises the following:
- Stay back at least 30 feet from any downed or dangling power line and warn others nearby immediately.
- Never assume a line is de-energized. Downed lines can still carry lethal voltage even if they are not sparking or making noise.
- Do not attempt to move or touch a downed line under any circumstances.
- Report it immediately to GPA’s 24/7 Trouble Dispatch line at (671) 475-1472/3/4.

Downed power lines are a life-threatening hazard. Electricity travels through the ground around a downed line and through standing water. Stay away, stay safe and let GPA crews handle it.
