The Guam Power Authority (GPA) will be operating an unmanned aerial vehicle, or drone, in Hagåtña beginning Friday, Aug. 22, through Tuesday, Aug. 26, as part of efforts to improve the island’s power infrastructure.
GPA officials said the drone will capture aerial imagery of the 115kV steel lattice transmission towers in the Agana Springs area. The inspection images will be used by GPA engineers and line crews for planning, maintenance and other system improvement projects.
According to the agency, UAV operations are subject to weather conditions and may be adjusted if needed. Safety protocols are in place, including keeping drones no closer than 30 meters from individuals to minimize risks to the public.
