The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) Board of Trustees convened in a special meeting Wednesday, Jun the agenda noting that discussions would center on "potential litigation," though hospital management is adamant it is not being sued.
The special meeting, called to discuss the "potential litigation," was held in executive session, indicating a closed-door meeting that does not allow public participation.
Though the hospital did not go into detail about what was discussed, GMHA management explained that "from time to time, matters arise that require the Board of Trustees to respond in a timely manner, outside of its regularly scheduled meetings."
On August 6, the hospital's management issued a statement following a news report that they called "inaccurate."
The hospital characterized the special meeting as "a normal part of good governance for any hospital board, and consistent with that practice, a special meeting was called yesterday so trustees could review a range of institutional matters, including legal risk topics."
Hospital officials stressed that matters discussed involving legal counsel held in executive session are "confidential, consistent with standard board protocol."
The GMHA Board will convene Aug. 18 to continue its review and provide updates following the meeting.
