The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority is advancing multiple facility improvement projects aimed at maintaining a safe and functional environment for patients, families and staff, hospital officials said Monday.
Exterior repair work is underway as part of the Roof and Envelope Revitalization Project in several areas of the hospital, including the Intensive Care Unit, Chief Medical Examiner area, Pediatrics and the Medical Telemetry Unit in B Wing. Repairs are expected to continue into next week, followed by repainting. Additional surface preparation is planned for the rear exterior of the Emergency Department and the back areas of the Medical Surgical and Surgical units.
Construction activity is also progressing on the Parking Expansion Project. The site is now fully enclosed, and the Guam Environmental Protection Agency has completed its inspection, allowing earthwork and the use of heavy equipment to begin.
Meanwhile, installation of new hospital chiller components continues as part of efforts to modernize cooling systems that support patient care areas and overall hospital operations. The project is being completed in phases.
Inside the hospital, the Environmental Services team recently completed stripping and waxing floors throughout the Operating Room Unit, including operating rooms, assessment and recovery areas, nurse stations and hallways. Floor care was also completed in several Intensive Care Unit rooms, along with nurse stations and hallways. Additional floor maintenance for all patient care units is planned in the coming weeks.
Interim Chief Executive Officer and Administrator Dr. Joleen M. Aguon said the improvements are focused on day-to-day patient and staff needs while addressing aging infrastructure.
“Every improvement, no matter how small it may seem, can make a meaningful difference for the patients and staff who rely on our hospital,” Aguon said.
