Guam Memorial Hospital Authority welcomed the island’s first baby of the New Year at 11:47 a.m. Thursday, marking a meaningful start to 2026 for the public hospital that serves families across Guam.
The birth brought a moment of celebration for the family and for the medical teams on duty, underscoring the hospital’s role in caring for the community during life’s most significant moments.
“When families welcome a child at GMH, they are placing their trust in our hospital and in the people who serve here,” said Interim CEO and Hospital Administrator Dr. Joleen M. Aguon. “Welcoming the first baby of the New Year reminds us that this hospital belongs to our island. We are here for our people in their hardest days and in their happiest ones, and it is an honor to begin the year caring for a new member of our Guam family.”
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero congratulated the family and reflected on the hospital’s importance to the community. “Guam Memorial Hospital is where our island turns during life’s most meaningful moments,” she said. “Welcoming the New Year baby is a reminder of the compassion and dedication of the healthcare professionals who serve our families day and night.”
Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio called the milestone a symbol of the hospital’s continued service to the people of Guam. “The birth of the New Year baby at GMH reflects the hospital’s role as a constant presence for our community,” he said. “It is a place where care, commitment, and community come together for the people of Guam.”
