The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) announced it will end its provider contract with TakeCare Insurance Company when the current agreement expires on Oct. 31, 2025. Starting Nov. 1, TakeCare members receiving care at GMHA will be considered “self-pay” patients and will need to seek reimbursement directly from the insurer.
According to GMHA, the decision follows years of unresolved issues with TakeCare over claims processing and payment delays. The hospital said it repeatedly reminded the insurer of its contractual obligations and even entered settlement agreements, but TakeCare “failed to meet its contractual obligations.”
Interim Hospital Administrator and CEO Dr. Joleen M. Aguon said the decision was made to protect the hospital’s operations and sustainability. “We encourage TakeCare members to reach out to their insurer as soon as possible to understand their options,” she said. “GMHA will continue to welcome all patients and provide the necessary care.”
GMHA said it understands the change may cause concern for affected patients but emphasized its ongoing commitment to providing care for all members of the community
