The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, October 29, for its Hospital Parking Expansion Project, which aims to improve accessibility for patients, visitors, staff, and the community. The event will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the hospital’s center island area in Tamuning.
The project will convert the existing center island into 38 new parking stalls, easing congestion and expanding capacity at Guam’s only public hospital. Though lawmakers have raised concern over prioritizing parking over other infrastructural needs of the aged public hospital, GMHA officials said the expansion is part of the hospital’s broader capital improvement efforts to modernize facilities and enhance the patient experience.
Construction is expected to continue through May 2026, with work carried out in phases to minimize disruption to hospital operations. The hospital emphasized that improving parking availability has been a longstanding priority as patient volume and staffing needs have grown.
