The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) will begin accepting women who are at least 36 weeks pregnant as well as high-risk expectant mothers 24 weeks pregnant or more on Sunday, July 5 at 7 a.m.
Expectant mothers who will shelter at the hospital should bring the following:
- Government issued ID and insurance card
- Medications
- Bedding to include pillows, blankets, and sheets
- Personal hygiene items
- Extra clothes
- Water and non-perishable snacks
- Entertainment devices
- Charging device for electronic devices
“Upon arrival patients should report to the Patient Registration Office on the first floor. Expectant mothers will be accommodated in a designated area and will
remain at GMHA until it is safe to return home following the storm,” GMHA said in a release on Saturday.
For safety of all patients, GMHA said only expectant mothers will be allowed to shelter at the hospital. “No escorts, support persons, visitors, children or pets,” the release said noting service animals are the exception.
With the impending storm the island’s only public hospital has also temporarily suspended the following services:
- Elective outpatient appointments
- Elective outpatient procedures
- Elective surgeries
- Other non-emergency clinical services
The temporary suspension according to hospital officials allows focus to be on emergency preparedness and essential patient care ahead of Super Typhoon Bavi.
“Patients affected by these temporary service suspensions are being notified directly and will be contacted to reschedule once normal operations resume,” GMHA said.
GMHA’s Emergency Room (ER) will remain open through the storm as normal, “and inpatient services and other essential hospital operations will continue without interruption throughout the storm.”
Once Condition of Readiness 2 is declared routine visitations and family viewings will be suspended.
