Guam Memorial Hospital Authority officials say ongoing revitalization efforts across the hospital campus are making progress, aided by volunteer support from community partners and public agencies.
According to GMHA, volunteers from the Chålan Åmte Group and the Guam Fire Department joined hospital facilities maintenance staff over the weekend to assist with exterior painting, grounds work and general beautification projects. Hospital officials said the work is part of broader efforts to improve safety, accessibility and the overall environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Inside the hospital, volunteers from the Serve Guam Commission and the AmeriCorps Program worked alongside GMHA teams to support interior upkeep and maintenance aimed at preserving clean and respectful patient care spaces.
“These efforts reflect the heart of our community and the shared responsibility we all have for the place that cares for our island,” said GMHA Interim Chief Executive Officer and Administrator Dr. Joleen M. Aguon. She said revitalization efforts are focused on strengthening environments where care is delivered, particularly for vulnerable patients.
GMHA also reported that its Environmental Services team continued targeted cleaning and maintenance in priority clinical areas, including patient rooms and spaces within the Intensive Care Unit, to support patient safety and readiness for care delivery.
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero acknowledged the role of community involvement in supporting hospital operations, saying volunteer efforts help ensure safe and functional spaces while long-term planning for Guam’s healthcare system continues.
Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio emphasized collaboration, noting that teamwork between hospital staff and community partners reinforces a shared commitment to public service and patient care.
GMHA officials said revitalization efforts will continue and expressed appreciation to volunteers and partner organizations for their support.
