The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority on Friday launched a new community-driven movement called “Our Hospital. Our Mission. Our Island.” aimed at rallying residents, organizations and partners to support the revitalization of Guam’s only public hospital. The initiative encourages islandwide volunteerism, beautification projects and hands-on assistance to uplift the facility and those who rely on it.
Interim GMHA Administrator and CEO Dr. Joleen M. Aguon said the initiative reflects the belief that the hospital is shaped by the people who work and receive care within its walls. “‘Our Hospital. Our Mission. Our Island.’ speaks to who we are as a people,” Aguon said, noting that every nurse, technician and staff member serves out of commitment to the community. “When our community stands with us, it strengthens our ability to provide the care our people deserve.”
The launch comes as GMHA continues major revitalization efforts, including capital improvements, environmental upgrades and long-term modernization. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero said the movement underscores shared responsibility as the government advances plans for a new hospital while improving the existing facility. “Caring for GMH is caring for the health and future of our island,” she said, encouraging community groups to get involved.
Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio said the movement represents unity and pride in Guam’s healthcare system. Volunteer participation is currently limited to organizations and community groups for safety within the active hospital campus.
