The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) is expanding its partnership with Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California to enhance specialty care, telemedicine, and professional training for Guam’s healthcare workforce. The collaboration, established under a memorandum of understanding signed in April, aims to improve clinical services and operational systems at the island’s only public hospital.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero said the partnership reflects GMH’s ongoing transformation in preparation for Guam’s new hospital. “This is what GMH has gone through—to improve operations, expand administration, and bring in the tools and resources needed to strengthen billing, collections, IT systems, and electronic health records,” she said. “Now, with a new hospital and with improvements already happening within GMH’s operations, we’re aligning both pieces so that when we bring them together, we’ll have a stronger clinical and operational foundation to serve our people.”
Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio emphasized that the initiative puts patients at the center of healthcare reform. He said the partnership allows more families to receive advanced care on island while offering doctors and nurses opportunities for continuing education with one of the nation’s top-ranked hospitals. “This partnership helps make the patient experience easier and more certain,” Tenorio said. “It’s another path forward—one that keeps patients in focus and expands opportunity for our healthcare professionals.”
GMHA Interim Chief Executive Officer Dr. Joleen Aguon described the collaboration as a “game changer” for Guam, enabling local clinicians to access specialty training and patients to receive care closer to home. “This partnership isn’t just about technology or telemedicine—it’s about people,” she said.
