The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority is taking precautionary steps to conserve oxygen following an islandwide disruption in liquid oxygen supply, officials announced Tuesday.
According to GMHA, the island’s primary oxygen supplier is experiencing an equipment issue, affecting availability across Guam.
As part of its response, the hospital is closely managing oxygen use and temporarily rescheduling elective surgeries to prioritize patients with urgent needs.
“This is something we are taking very seriously,” said Dr. Joleen M. Aguon, interim chief executive officer and administrator. “We are stable right now, but we are planning ahead and being transparent with our community.”
Aguon said hospital teams are coordinating with partners to maintain safe operations and avoid disruptions to patient care.
GMHA officials said they will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as needed.
