The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority is continuing a series of infrastructure upgrades aimed at strengthening hospital operations and improving safety for patients, staff and visitors, officials said Sunday. The work includes restoration projects across multiple areas of the hospital campus in Tamuning.
Crews made progress this week on GMHA’s Roof and Envelope Restoration Initiative, conducting waterblasting near the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, Pediatrics and Medical Telemetry. Additional work included surface preparation along third- and fourth-floor balcony corridors and railings on the ocean side of the hospital.
“These improvements reflect our commitment to building a stronger and more resilient GMHA,” Interim CEO Dr. Joleen M. Aguon said, adding that the upgrades support safety, healing and a better overall experience for patients and staff. Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero said continued investment in GMHA strengthens the hospital’s foundation for the future, while Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio said each phase brings the community closer to a modernized hospital.
GMHA also reported progress on its Hospital Parking Expansion Project, which will add 38 new parking stalls to ease parking challenges and improve access. Recent work includes safety staging on the center island and the installation of solar lighting to improve visibility during evening hours. Hospital officials reminded visitors and staff to use caution around active construction zones.
