A flood advisory is currently in effect for Guam until 5:45 PM this afternoon, November 6, according to an advisory issued by the National Weather Service Guam Weather Forecast Office. Between 0.4 and 1 inch of rain has already fallen, and an additional 1 to 2 inches are possible through 6:45 PM.
Furthermore, a flood watch remains in effect for Guam and Rota through Friday night, November 7. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible, with total rainfall of 3 to 5 inches possible over Guam and Rota through Friday afternoon.
The community is strongly advised to take the following precautionary actions:
Driving: Be alert for low visibility in heavy rain, slow down where water is pooling on the road, and allow adequate braking distance between vehicles.
Flood Safety: Remember the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” principle. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters, as just 6 inches of moving water can knock a person down, and 2 feet can sweep a vehicle away.
Streams and Rivers: Do not camp, park, or hike along streams and rivers, as these areas can flood quickly and with little warning.
The Office of Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense remind everyone to practice caution while traveling in heavy rain.
