A flash flood warning is in effect for Guam until 9:15 a.m., Monday, according to the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Guam.
Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen, with an additional 2 to 4 inches possible, forecasters said. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
The Guam Homeland Security Office of Civil Defense is urging residents to use caution, especially while traveling in heavy rain.
Officials advise motorists to watch for low visibility during downpours, slow down where water is ponding on roads and maintain safe braking distances. Residents are also reminded to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” noting that as little as 6 inches of moving water can knock a person down and 2 feet of water can sweep away a vehicle.
Authorities also warned against camping, parking or hiking along streams and rivers, which can flood quickly with little warning.
