Five Department of Education schools have been designated to serve as storm shelters for individuals and families needing safe harbor from Super Typhoon Bavi.
The shelters are identified as follows:
North:
Machananao Elementary School
Astumbo Elementary School
Maria Ulloa Elementary School
Central:
Ordot-Chalan Pago Elementary School
South:
Talofofo Elementary School
In a separate release, the governor’s office instructed the community to “shelter in place by sunset on Sunday” based on “clear and consistent” messaging from the National Weather Service.
To stay in a shelter, individuals must register and present a valid ID upon arrival.
Those sheltering should bring enough food and water to last seven days for each family member, along with infant formula, baby food and necessary medications. Residents are reminded that cooking devices are not allowed inside shelters.
Shelterees must also abide by shelter rules which prohibits alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons and pets. Smoking is permitted only in designated areas.
On Saturday, the administration urged residents to prepare and plan to arrive “on time” when shelters open Sunday.
“Be where you need to be before conditions become dangerous,” the governor’s office said.
Upon declaration of Condition of Readiness (COR) 2 on Saturday, the Southern Regional Health Center will open to residents with medical emergencies and urgent care needs in the south. Guam Memorial Hospital and Guam Regional Medical City will remain open for residents in central and northern Guam seeking emergency medical care.
The governor is expected to move Guam to COR 2 at 10 p.m. Saturday.
