Guam Fire Department units battled a major blaze at the Global Recycling Center on Batulo Street, where multiple tires, vehicles and a makeshift structure were fully engulfed in flames last night.
The fire was reported at 10:33 p.m., with arriving crews finding heavy smoke and intense flames along the main road. Officials said a makeshift structure within the compound was also destroyed in the blaze.
Due to the thick smoke, GFD advised residents in nearby East Santa Barbara and East San Antonio to consider temporary evacuation if they feel it is necessary while firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.
Three GFD engine companies responded to the scene, supported by an additional engine from Joint Region Marianas and a tanker from Andersen Fire & Emergency Services.
"The fire was under control at 2 a.m. All units secured the scene at 5 a.m.," GFD said. "The Guam Fire Department would like to thank Anderson Fire and Emergency Services, Joint Region Marianas, Guam International Airport Authority AARF and the Dededo mayor for their assistance."
