In response to Super Typhoon Bavi, The Guam Fire Department has waived the fire permit requirements which limit fuel storage.
The waiver went into effect on July 4 and will temporarily allow individuals to store up to 20 gallons of gasoline and/or diesel fuel without a fire permit.
“All fuel must be stored in approved and properly cleaned designated containers specific to the type of fuel being purchased,” GFD said.
The temporary waiver is implemented in light of Super Typhoon Bavi and will remain in effect until 10 p.m. on August 31.
GFD reminded the community to “exercise caution” when handling and storing fuel. In addition to storing fuel in approved containers GFD also advised to store the fuel in a “well-ventilated” area away from heat sources, keep out of reach of children and avoid overfilling containers.
