Father Mike Crisostomo, a beloved Catholic priest who devoted nearly three decades to serving the people of Guam, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 2, at Guam Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by family.
The Archdiocese of Agaña said Crisostomo, known affectionately as Palé Mike, suffered a stroke and was admitted to GMH on Dec. 31. His death leaves “a large hole in our hearts and our Church,” the archdiocese said.
Ordained June 22, 1996, Crisostomo served the island’s Catholic community for 29 years, most recently as parochial administrator of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inarajan. He previously led St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tamuning as pastor and parochial administrator and held numerous leadership roles, including vicar of clergy for the Curia, chair of the Guam Coalition for Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse, chaplain for the Catholic Daughters, and director of the archdiocese’s Ministry for the Homeless Soup Kitchen and Erica’s House.
Archbishop Ryan P. Jimenez extended prayers and condolences to the Crisostomo family and thanked the community for the “tremendous” outpouring of support, asking Catholics to join in prayer for the late priest and his loved ones.
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero said Crisostomo was known for kindness, humility and deep commitment to those in need, noting his advocacy for victims of family violence and service on the Criminal Victims Compensation Commission. Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio praised his compassion and courage in protecting the vulnerable. Speaker Frank F. Blas Jr. called him a devoted servant of faith who touched countless lives.
Rosaries began Friday night at 5:30 p.m. followed by Mass at 6 p.m. and will continue weeknights at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Weekend services will include a 4:30 p.m. rosary and 5 p.m. Mass. Funeral arrangements will be announced.
