A Dededo man with a prior conviction for family violence has been arrested and charged after police said he assaulted and strangled his girlfriend during two incidents earlier this month.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, police responded to a report on Aug. 2 and met with the victim, who said her boyfriend, Jacob Zachary Quintanilla DeGuzman, punched, slapped, and choked her during an argument the night before. The victim told police the assault lasted several minutes and that she was not allowed to leave or contact help. Police documented bruises, swelling, and other injuries on her body.
The affidavit states DeGuzman again allegedly assaulted the victim the following morning before she was able to leave with her mother. When later questioned by police, DeGuzman initially denied harming the victim but admitted he may have “grabbed her a little too hard.” Court records show DeGuzman was previously convicted of family violence against the same victim in 2021.
DeGuzman was arrested Aug. 24 and faces multiple charges, including strangulation, felonious restraint, interfering with the reporting of family violence, family violence – third offense, and misdemeanor assault. The case is now pending in Superior Court.
