A Dededo man was charged Tuesday in the Superior Court of Guam with repeatedly beating a woman with a baseball bat and hammer over a nine-day period, with Magistrate Judge Sean Brown setting bail at $20,000 cash.
David John Cepeda Torres II, 56, faces two counts of family violence as third-degree felonies, two counts of aggravated assault, felonious restraint and a misdemeanor family violence charge.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, officers responded to Torres' residence April 27 after family members of the victim, requested a welfare check. The victim appeared in the doorway with visible facial bruising and a laceration above her right eye that was actively bleeding.
Victim told officers Torres had beaten her. At Guam Regional Medical Center, she said she had arrived at Torres' residence April 18, during which time Torres tied her to a bed with a rope and struck her multiple times with a baseball bat and a hammer. When she tried to yell for help, he choked her. When she attempted to flee to a neighbor's home, Torres found her and brought her back.
Officers observed both of the victim's eyes nearly swollen shut, a laceration above the eyebrow, bruising to both cheeks and red scratch marks on her neck.
Court records show Torres has a prior felony conviction and a history of arrests including prior family violence charges dating to 1998. He faces up to 66 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
