A Dededo man was arrested early Saturday after his daughter called police to report that he had assaulted his wife, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Attorney General’s Office. Authorities charged Bernardo Malong San Juan III with misdemeanor family violence in violation of Guam law.
Police responded to the Dededo home at around 12:55 a.m. on Aug. 23 after receiving a 911 call from the couple’s 20-year-old daughter. Officers found San Juan's wife crying on the couch with swelling on her forehead. She told officers that her husband, punched her multiple times in the face during an argument in their bedroom shortly after midnight.
According to the affidavit, the daughter said she did not witness the alleged assault but entered the room after hearing yelling and banging noises. She told police she saw her mother with a bump on her forehead and instructed her to call authorities. Officers reported that Bernardo appeared intoxicated, smelled strongly of alcohol and denied that the argument had turned physical.
San Juan was arrested at about 1:50 a.m. and transported to the Department of Corrections. Prosecutors said there is probable cause to charge him with family violence.
