Rescue crews are continuing search efforts for a missing 22-year-old man reported in distress near Tanguisson Beach in Dededo, according to emergency officials.

A 911 call was received at about 6:28 p.m. Feb. 10 initially reporting a distressed fisherman in the waters off Tanguisson Beach. Units arrived on scene at approximately 6:41 p.m. and immediately began search and rescue operations. The response involves a joint effort by the Guam Fire Department, Guam Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25.

As of 6:35 a.m. Feb. 11, the Guam Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard said they will resume joint search operations at first light. Crews are focusing search efforts offshore in waters outside the Tanguisson Power Plant. Authorities later clarified the missing individual is a 22-year-old male who was swimming at the time of the incident.

Officials reminded the public that a High Surf Advisory and a Small Craft Advisory remain in effect. Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid entering hazardous waters as search operations continue.
