An assault investigation at Southern High School resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old man who was charged Thursday in the Superior Court of Guam.
The incident occurred on Sept. 9 in the "automotive parking lot" across the cafeteria. According to the complaint, Tristan Jerome Concepcion Quinata chased a 15-year-old student and allegedly struck him in the face with brass knuckles, causing him to lose his balance.
A school aide who witnessed the incident reported the brass knuckles were wrapped in a bandanna. The school aide in a written statement described seeing the victim "spin around to regain his balance before school aides intervened."
A student who witnessed the incident told authorities that the confrontation was "an anticipated fair fight" but alleged Quinata used a "brass" to hit the victim.
The victim sustained a one-inch laceration on the left corner of his eye which according to the complaint required medics to be called by the school nurse.
According to the complaint school officials searched for the brass knuckles but were unable to locate it.
Police arrested Quinata following their investigation. He was charged with Aggravated Assault as a third-degree felony with the special allegation of use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony and misdemeanor child abuse.
Quinata was remanded to the Department of Corrections with bail set at $3,000.
