Teams from across the island came together this week for the annual Canstruction competition, hosted by Be Heartfelt and the Tower of Humanity, transforming stacks of canned goods into creative structures that will help feed hungry children on Guam.
In the days leading up to the event, participants collected canned goods to serve as the building blocks for their entries, blending art, teamwork, and community service. This year’s participants included a mix of schools, government agencies, and businesses such as Wettengel Elementary School, Adacao Elementary School, Kmart, Cost-U-Less, and Guam Girl Scouts Troop 406.
Each team’s structure reflects hours of planning and collaboration, with designs built entirely out of food items that will later be donated to local organizations supporting families in need. Event organizers said the competition not only fosters creativity but also underscores the power of collective action in addressing food insecurity.
Judging for the event begins today at 12 p.m. with the People’s Choice Award, followed by official judging at 5 p.m. Entries will be evaluated for creativity, craftsmanship, and the total quantity of canned goods donated — with every can serving as a symbol of community generosity and compassion.
