The Guam Waterworks Authority (GWA) announced Monday that courtesy bottled water distribution for Santa Rosa and Yigo area customers will end Wednesday, November 12, after four consecutive weeks of clean test results from Well Y-15 confirmed the water is safe to drink.
GWA said laboratory samples collected on October 11, 16, 23, and 29 all showed non-detect levels for dieldrin, a legacy chemical previously found in the well’s untreated water. “These consistent results confirm that the water from Well Y-15 is now safe to drink, cook with, and use for personal hygiene,” the agency stated.
The bottled water program began October 2 to assist affected residents while GWA installed a granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment system, which successfully removed traces of dieldrin from the water supply. Over the past month, the agency distributed 35,116 cases of bottled water at an estimated cost of $252,958.
