Guam Police Department detectives are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body found behind the Yona gym on Dec. 1 while officers were following up on a missing person case, according to GPD’s Criminal Investigation Section.

The male, believed to be in his 40s, has not been positively identified. An autopsy is pending, and the cause of death will not be known until the Chief Medical Examiner completes a full examination.

GPD officials said the investigation remains active and released limited details, noting that withholding information is standard practice in the early stages of a death investigation. Police must first verify facts, protect the integrity of the case, and ensure next of kin are notified if an identity is confirmed.

“As soon as we have releasable information, I will share it with the media,” the department stated.
