The Guam Department of Agriculture has secured a fire engine valued at $321,425 for the Guam Fire Department at no cost to taxpayers through a federal asset reutilization program.
The engine was acquired through the USDA Forest Service's Firefighter Program, which authorizes DOAG's Forestry and Soil Resources Division to screen and claim surplus assets through a cooperative agreement. The vehicle was obtained from the Defense Logistics Agency at Naval Base Guam.
Acting DOAG Director Glenn Takai said the acquisition reflects the value of interagency partnership, noting the program allows Guam to secure critical emergency resources when funding is limited.
GFD Fire Chief Daren Burrier credited a "One Guam" approach among local, federal, and military fire partners, citing the Navy Federal Fire and Emergency Services for releasing the truck.
Forestry Division Chief Christine Camacho Fejeran said identifying resources to support wildland fire readiness remains a priority for the division.
Officials say the added equipment strengthens GFD's emergency response capability and helps bridge resource gaps in wildland fire and emergency operations across the island.
