The Office of the Governor announced significant progress toward resolving long-standing electrical issues at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH), following an agreement between GMH and the Guam Power Authority (GPA) to modernize the hospital’s electrical infrastructure. The collaboration marks a major step in ensuring safety and reliability at Guam’s primary public hospital.
After reviewing GPA’s assessment of GMH’s electrical systems, hospital leadership agreed to adopt the power authority’s recommendations and requested that GPA lead the repair and procurement process. GPA will oversee the project, providing technical expertise, procurement capabilities, and quality assurance to meet modern safety standards.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero praised the agencies’ cooperation, stating, “This partnership reflects the best of what can happen when our government agencies work together toward a common goal—protecting the health and safety of our people.” GMH Interim CEO Dr. Joleen Aguon also welcomed GPA’s involvement, noting that the collaboration “will help ensure these critical repairs are done right and without delay,” and reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing a safe and reliable environment for patients and staff.
The Governor emphasized that while plans for a new medical campus remain underway, maintaining and improving the current GMH facilities remains a top priority. Both GMH and GPA will continue to coordinate closely to ensure timely completion of the electrical repairs and will provide regular updates to the public as progress is made.
