The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration and several GovGuam agencies have joined forces to enhance the cleanliness and safety of the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA), in what leaders described as a shared commitment to improving conditions at the island’s only public hospital. The initiative, led by Interim CEO Dr. Joleen Aguon, brings together the Guam Police Department, Guam Fire Department, and Department of Public Works under a unified effort to support the facility and its staff.
“This is more than a cleanup,” Dr. Aguon said. “It’s about pride, teamwork, and care for the place where we heal our community.” She added that the collaboration allows hospital staff to stay focused on providing quality patient care while partner agencies lend their expertise and manpower to facility improvements.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero commended the renewed partnership, recalling how similar cross-agency cooperation proved effective in reopening schools in recent years. “While the permanent answer is a new hospital for our people, we will not wait to take action where we can,” she said. “We owe it to our hospital employees who give so much, and to every patient and family who comes through those doors, to show them that their work and their care matter.”
Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio echoed the governor’s message, emphasizing that supporting GMHA is a shared responsibility. “These efforts do not replace the long-term solution of a modern facility, but they do improve the environment today for the staff who serve and the families who rely on this hospital for healing,” he said. The latest partnership follows GMHA’s recent collaboration with the Guam Power Authority to repair and upgrade the hospital’s electrical system — part of a broader push to strengthen the facility while plans for a new hospital move forward.
