The Guam Police Department has arrested an Agat man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in April in the Pagachao area of Hågat.
Police identified the suspect as Donald Joseph Lacno, 49, of Agat. Lacno was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated murder, murder, aggravated assault, use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a valid ID, obstructing governmental functions, and destroying evidence, according to GPD.
The charges stem from an incident on the evening of April 3, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man with a gunshot wound outside a residence in Pagachao. The victim, Carl Florence Eucogo Gargarita, later died from his injuries. Detectives from GPD’s Criminal Investigation Section took over the case and determined that Gargarita had been involved in a dispute with two other men shortly before the shooting.
According to police, surveillance footage from a nearby residence and forensic video analysis by the FBI Guam Resident Office helped identify Lacno as the suspected shooter. Lacno was later located, interviewed, and subsequently booked and confined to the Department of Corrections. The case has been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for prosecution.
