As of 8 p.m. Sunday, the Guam Waterworks Authority (GWA) estimated roughly 1,947 customers remained without water service as post-typhoon recovery efforts continue to restore reservoir levels and system pressure.
GWA reported 92 wells online, with 73 on the island-wide power system. All booster pump stations are online. The Ugum Surface Water Treatment Plant and Tumon Maui well are also online, while Santa Rita Springs remains on generator power. All wastewater treatment plants are operational and 90% of sewer pump stations are online.
GWA said service adjustments in "specific parts of the island" may affect reporting data as restoration continues.
"GWA is aware of areas experiencing low to no water pressure in parts of Agana Heights, Barrigada, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Dededo, Harmon, Mangilao, Maina, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Nimitz Hill Estates, Sinajana, Santa Rita-Sumai, Talofofo, Tamuning, Tumon, Yigo and Yona," the July 13 release said.
During restoration, system adjustments to rebuild pressure can result in outages and low-to-no-pressure conditions as crews respond to power fluctuations, refueling or generator maintenance. GWA said electrical trips at wells and boosters are expected but that components are "designed to protect themselves" from damage.
A precautionary boil water notice remains in effect for customers who experienced an outage of 48 hours or more due to potential bacterial contamination from runoff, pressure drops below 5 psi or failure in the water treatment process.
