As of 9 p.m. July 17, 198 Guam Waterworks Authority (GWA) customers remained without water service out of 43,643 total customers. Though the agency partially lifted the boil water notice, officials identified several areas where the notice remains mandatory.
Customers in areas around the Dededo Home Center, Cruz Street across from Commercial Tire in lower Barrigada Heights, Route 8 from Subway to KFC/Shell Gas Station, and areas surrounding Dimas Street in Mangilao are advised to boil water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.
“Bacterial contamination can occur when increased runoff enters the drinking water source, if line pressure drops below 5 psi, during prolonged or sustained loss of service, or from failure in the water treatment process,” GWA said.
System adjustments made to rebuild pressure during restoration can bring temporary outages and low-to-no-pressure conditions. Customer demand during peak hours will affect how quickly pressure reaches acceptable service levels.
GWA will continue island-wide water quality testing, with results reported as they become available.
Water tankers and flexitanks have been staged at the following locations:
Barrigada — Library and Jesus Cruz Street
Chalan Pago — Mayor’s Office
Dededo — Astumbo Senior Center, Machanao
Mangilao — Santa Teresita Catholic Church
Talo’fo’fo’ — Mayor’s Office
Yigo — Gil Breeze Subdivision
